Above: Ibrahim Kaypakkaya, founder of the Communist Party of Turkey/Marxist-Leninist (TKP-ML), and its armed wing, TIKKO, was tortured and killed at Diyarbakir Prison in 1973. He is venerated as a martyr for the Communist cause, and for being one of the first prominent activists to raise the issue of Kurdish rights. His image is now an iconic and ubiquitous symbol across Dersim.
